چکیده
Context. Insight into the conditions that drive physics and chemistry in interstellar clouds is gained from determining abundance charge state of their components. Aims. We propose an evaluation C60:C60+ ratio diffuse translucent exploits electronic absorption bands so as not to rely on ambiguous IR emission measurements. Methods. The determined by analyzing archival spectra literature data. Information cation population obtained published characteristics main attributed C60+ cross sections already reported for vibronic cation. neutral molecules described terms upper limit because relevant C60 are brought out observations. revise oscillator strengths measure spectrum molecule isolated Ne ice complete them. Results. scale down find approximately 1.3 ratio. Conclusions. conclude fraction buckminsterfullerene may be notable despite non-detection expected bands. More certainty will require improved laboratory data

Hydrocarbons in diffuse and translucent clouds
We investigate the consequences on hydrocarbon chemistry in diffuse and translucent clouds of including an interaction between gaseous C+ ions and dust grains. In general, we find that models in which much of the carbon is deposited and retained on grain surfaces within the cloud lifetime represent a poor match to observations. Conversely, models in which carbon is efficiently converted to meth...
متن کاملEnigma of H3 + in Diffuse Interstellar Clouds
1. INTRODUCTION H 3 + is of fundamental importance to interstellar chemistry both because it is a hydrogenic species (and >90% of all nuclei in the universe are hydrogen nuclei; see Figure 1) and because it serves as the universal protonator, initiating a chain of ion-neutral reactions that is responsible for the formation of most interstellar molecules. The chemistry of H 3 + in dense (molecul...
متن کاملSiO in diffuse, translucent and ‘spiral-arm’ clouds
Using the Plateau de Bure interferometer, we searched for thermal SiO J=1-2 absorption at 86 GHz from the diffuse and translucent clouds which lie toward our sample of extragalactic continuum sources. SiO is present at a level N(SiO)/N(HCO+) ≈ 0.01 − 0.1, or N(SiO)/N(H2) ≈ 2 × 10−11 − 2 × 10−10. N(SiO) declines with increasing N(HCO+) and with increasing thermal pressure measured in the J=1-0 l...
متن کاملExtragalactic molecular clouds and chemistry of diffuse interstellar clouds
Zusammenfassung Since the discovery of a cold molecular component of the interstellar medium in the 1970s, it has been realized that most of the dark clouds are actually molecular clouds, consisting mainly of molecular hydrogen and some amount of dust and other molecules. Nowadays, molecular clouds are recognized as places of star-formation in the Milky Way and other galaxies. Therefore, studie...
متن کاملThe Thinnest Cold Hi Clouds in the Diffuse Interstellar Medium?
We confirm and discuss recently discovered cold HI clouds with column densities among the lowest ever detected. The column densities of Cold Neutral Medium (CNM) towards 3C286 and 3C287 are ∼ 10 cm, below an observational lower limit, and also below tiny-scale-atomic clouds detected by VLBI and time-variable profiles against pulsars. These column densities are close to the minimum imposed by th...
